Well, in that hit you miss. She'll not be hit With Cupid's arrow. She hath Dian's wit, And, in strong proff of chastity well armed, From Love's weak childish bow she lives uncharmed. She will not stay the siege of loving terms, Nor bide th' encounter of assailing eyes, Nor ope her lap to saint-seducing gold. O, she is rich in beauty; only poor That, when she dies, with dies her store. Act 1, Scene 1, lines 180-197 . William Shakespeare
About This Quote

This quote is spoken by the character Phebe after the heroine Beatrice has just told her that she believed she was in love with Benedick. This quote goes on to describe how the heroine Beatrice is undeserving of Benedick, and how she will not be seduced by Cupid's arrow. The way Phebe describes Beatrice, she seems to imply that she is uncultured and uneducated. Moreover, Phebe appears to believe that Beatrice possesses no sense of modesty, so Phebe is suggesting that Beatrice lacks the ability to resist the advances of others.

It is also implied that Beatrice does not know how to properly maintain her chastity, having never been "armed with" this virtue. Perhaps most importantly, Phebe implies that Beatrice lacks "wit," which would appear to be an extremely offensive word for someone who claims to be intelligent.
